Simple Loaning Process

Present your MATRICULATION CARD (stamped with a SIS Sticker*) to our friendly SIS Security Guards.
Fill in the LOAN book at the security guard counter.
Exchange a fan with your IDENTIFICATION CARD**.
Enjoy!

* Your SIS Sticker can be obtained at SISS Room @ Level 3.

** Acceptable (at the moment) identification cards: Matric Card, NRIC, Driver’s License.

Terms and Conditions

By loaning, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

Students would have to be responsible in taking care of our SIS Welfare fans.
Students have to be mindful of other students, and return our SIS Welfare fans should he/she not need them any longer.
Students who (deliberately) damage our SIS Welfare fans would need to submit a statement of account, followed by an investigation by SISS. In the worst-case scenario, he/she would be held liable for charges.
Students will not move the welfare fans stationed in their respective areas elsewhere (especially, out of SIS’s premises), unless special instructions are given.

These terms and conditions are subjected to changes at SISS’s discretion.

What does DFS remind you of? I’m sure most of us recall Changi Airport where you purchase duty-free timepieces,cosmetics and spirits etc. One might also wonder, what place does IS have in a retail chain. As world’s leading luxury retailer in the travel industry, DFS is at the forefront in positioning IT as an enabler of business change with Business Analytics being that spearhead of business strategy. Hear our fellow alumni Alex Chng as he shares with us on what it means to be part of this movement!

Aimed at encouraging students to strive for academic and professional excellence, and to pursue careers at the crux of IT and business, DFS Galleria Singapore also collaborates with SIS in developing talents with the DFS-SMU Information Systems Scholarship. DFS recently implemented the iGate initiative, a custom-built application to streamline consumer purchase experience, find out how the LAX (Los Angeles Airport) does this with DFS here!

SIS Tournament Circuit

Rave about programming? Have an eye for those design patterns and dedicated those wee hours to complex problems? Wait no more as the SIS Tournament circuit is in town!!! Held over 3 weeks with 3 different categories, join us and stand a chance to win our attractive prizes!!!

Softlayer has sponsored great prizes for the SIS Tournament Circuit. There will be three tournaments taking place: one each for Javascript, Ruby and Java. Held over consecutive Fridays, slots are on a first come first serve basis so do sign-up early!

Prizes include

An Apple iPad
An Android Tablet
A Microsoft XBox360 and Kinect

Details

Each tournament will consist of two rounds – a fun round and a prize round
In order to be eligible to win prizes in the prize round you must finish as part of the top 20 in the fun round
The fun round will consist of 10 existing problems as displayed on the competition website. Students are encouraged to practice prior to the tournament.
The prize round will consist of 10 new problems developed by SIS professors for the Tournaments
Each tournament round will start as a closed book (no Internet or personal notes help) competition in order to provide an advantage to the best prepared students. After 10 minutes, students will be given permission to access the Internet for assistance
You are not allowed to access personal notes at any point during the competition. Any Internet access is only meant for accessing API documentation, search engines, or forums such as StackOverflow
If there are any technical problems with the network or competition site, the organizers reserve the right to award the prize to any participant they believe most worthy

Game Development- Behind the Scenes

Like most of us, I love games. When it comes to sharing my opinion on games we care about, I can’t really be stopped. Once we think about making games, we’re looking at an ocean of new knowledge– issues that we didn’t even know existed! But we’re also looking at a rewarding and challenging medium, one that allows us to explore ideas in novel and interesting ways!

This week, we invite Tyler Projects, an established developer of advanced games for social networking platforms. Tyler has games ranging from those on Facebook to mobile devices on iOS, Android, Win8 and Blackberry 10 platforms, winning the IDA merit award for most innovative product at the National Infocomm Awards(2008) along the way.
